Here at Media Bakery, we understand that it is often hard to find exactly what you’re looking for. You have a specific creative brief, and you know visually what you’re looking for, but how the heck can you find it? With thousands of convoluted image sites we get that it can sometimes be tricky. Our professional content curators have put together some useful tips to help you find that needle in a haystack!
To do this, let’s imagine you have a creative brief: You’re looking for a photograph of a family eating brunch. The photo needs to be bright and upbeat and horizontal orientation. You’re looking for a photo of multiple people, and it needs to be Royalty Free only!
1. Start with a simple search…
Searching for relevant keywords is your best bet to finding what you’re looking for. Every image that gets uploaded on Media Bakery is required to have keywords. We make sure that each and every one has keywords that accurately match the photo.
A simple search for “brunch” will pull up thousands of images that match that keyword. As a general tip, start with a search that is general, and then dive into more specific search terms.
2. Optimize your results by using the sidebar tool…
The sidebar tool will help you qualify the visual content you’re looking for. Are you looking for a certain photo orientation (horizontal or vertical)? What about specific person attributes? For example, you can narrow down your search results by only including images of women, or by only including groups of people. This is also where you can check/uncheck the box for Royalty Free vs. Rights Managed.
For our creative brief, we’re looking for images with people in them, with a horizontal orientation and Royalty Free only! Checking these boxes will narrow down our results even further.
3. Be creative, and think of different keywords!
Maybe instead of searching for brunch, you should search for breakfast. Try combinations of keywords to see what works, and what doesn’t. For our creative brief, I narrowed down the search results even further by searching for “breakfast and family and eating”. Thinking about adjectives and action words that describe what you’re looking for is super useful.
4. Choose an image that’s close, and use it to find similar others!
After narrowing down your search results, we’re really close to finding what we’re looking for! If you get results that are close, but not quite right, click on one you do like. Then, once it brings you to the image page, click on the “view more like this” button which will allow you to search for photos that are similar.
And there you go! After following the steps, I found a great photo that matches our creative brief.
Lastly, at Media Bakery, we offer free image researches! Let us do the hard work for you. Just provide your creative brief, and we will have our team of professional curators find that perfect image for you 🙂
